*** yesterday ***
i totally wasted the day away. i'm SO proud of me! she came and picked me up, and we went off for an hour to the park (stopping for crepes and icecream on the way). she then dropped me off at my vtm game.
things are improving - i'm starting to get the hang of everything. however my inexperience does get the better of me. this is the situation i found myself in last night:
the slavemaster has aroused raeka's anger, by refusing to do business with a female, and she stalks him across town, until she sees him entering a rather seedy tavern.
raeka enters the tavern. being the only woman in the room, and good looking at that, every head turns towards her.
so much for subtlety.
she sits down at the bar beside the slavemaster, and tells him, "we need to talk." the slavemaster gives her a dirty look, and tells her the only talking that will take place is in bed. as it's a way to get him alone, raeka agrees, and goes up to his room to wait for him.
a little later, he walks into the room, quite drunk. he begins undressing, and rudely tells raeka to do the same. she walks up to him, as his pants are halfway down, picks him up by the throat, and slams him against the wall - pinning his arms to his side with her other arm.
the slavemaster's eyes go wide in terror. raeka brings her face to within an inch of his, and for a long moment does nothing but stare angrily.
"i don't like you, " she says, "but you WILL help me."
she strangles him until he loses consciousness, and lays his body out on the bed. she searches him, but finds only money. she stalks out of the room.
a large, beefy man is waiting outside for her. he sneers, "finished so soon?"
"he couldn't last as long as i thought," she quips.
"you'll not speak such things against any man! i'll show you how long a man can last."
he grabs her by the arm, and roughly drags her to another door along the landing. angered, raeka barely resists. she knows what's coming next.
as they get inside his room, he rips away her dress with surprising speed, pressing his body against hers, his belt already halfway off.
raeka goes into a frenzy - he will NOT have his way with her, nor anybody else! she pushes him a few steps away, and takes a wild swing with her fist. he finishes removing his belt, and attempts to whip her with it, but he's still too close, and he also misses.
raeka kicks him blindingly fast, and very hard, in the groin. he doubles over, and she knees him in the head. he crumbles.
for a few minutes raeka proceeds to kick and crush his body into a bloody pulp, barely recognizable as having once been human. she is naked, covered in blood, and he has been turned into a human pudding.
blood, blood, everywhere, but not a drop to drink.
once she's calmed down, she takes stock of her situation. there is nothing in the room but a wooden cot, and two buckets - one filled with water, the other with human waste. nothing to wear. the only thing she finds of any use, is a knife, but that's not going to help her get through a tavern filled with people...
she waits until about an hour before dawn, when finally things have quietened down. she peeks out the door, and sees the innkeeper stacking chairs on tables. she attempts to sneak past him, but about halfway down the stairs, he turns and sees her. he is shocked, seeing her naked and covered in blood, and asks, "what on earth has happened?"
raeka mumbles something about a man in the room, attempting to come across as hurt and abused - the innkeeper cannot see that the blood is not hers.
the beast within is stirring - raeka is in need of blood, and dawn is approaching. she has no time for games.
wanting to know more, and probably with some intention of helping her, he lets her lead him to the room containing the dead man. as he enters the room, she closes the door behind her, covers his mouth, gripping him tightly, and sinks her fangs into his neck. she feeds until he has no more blood, and then drops him gently to the floor. she cleans herself up a little, removes and puts on the innkeeper's clothing, and hurries home.
i spent most of this scene completely clueless as to how to proceed, with everyone else getting quite upset with me at every turn, because i handled it all rather badly - just the simple mistake of following him inside, and everything else was out of my hands!
but i did have a lot of fun.
i came home, intending to do something productive, but our internet was lost. it took us ages to get it back (and me all the while forgetting to have supper), and by that time i'd lost my inspiration. i played some beneath a steel sky (such a beautiful game!), and then she called, and i went with her to the bus station so that she could get id photos.
the machine wasn't working...
we said goodbye, for two weeks. this sucks. i hope i'll get a chance to go through to visit her, but it doesn't seem likely.
all three of my flatemates have agreed to my proposal, that for any item of cutlery or crockery that we clean, that wasn't dirtied by us, gets the soiler one good punch. at the end of each day, we tally up, and whoever has a deficit gets beaten.
already, there are no dishes in the sink. it's amazing how fast it worked!
now i have to figure out how to get them to stop stealing my apples... i'm eating one really juice, solid granny-smith as i type. mmmm. crunchy.
*** today ***
i got up really early, and bladed to class. we had to have a class at 08.45. it's just great. really pleasant way to wake up.
spent the day in class, or doing homework. i finally managed to leave campus around 16.30, and went over to a friend's place, where five of us had a good ol' braai (i can't spell the english word for it). our brit has spent enough time in cape town, that he could actually back me up with my stories about the mother city, and he even had a few of his own! it was a totally new experience for me.
that's where a few of my hours went. i got home, i'm guessing, around 8 / 9pm. i've been trying to do homework, but i really can't focus. we have 33 pages of economics reading for tomorrow, and i can't make head or tail of even the first four pages, and we suspect that there'll be a class quiz.
this lecturer is a complete bastard.
i'm absolutely in love with beneath a steel sky. it's a beautifully designed game, the graphics are at LEAST good enough, and it's loads of fun all around.
only problem - can't play 'cause i don't have time.
i'm gonna make one last attempt at this crazy document, and then it's way past time to hit the hay.
a story about a man making his dreams come true... but with all the interesting bits left out.
