*** 29th ***

i got up early-ish (before 10am), did some work, and then went to campus, to meet with a lecturer about a project. the meeting went well. other than that, it wasn't the greatest day i've had.

i did go to training in the evening, which was quite nice.

*** yesterday ***

i got up at 06.30, to do my math homework, which i almost completed before arriving for class at 08.30. class was okay.
i sat in on some presentations to potential students, and then...

I HANDED IN MY FINAL HOMEWORK FOR THIS SEMESTER!!!

it was really, really exciting, relieving, and other stuff too. this semester has been hell - i've barely had time to breathe, and i've not only made it to all my classes, but i've been doing all the homework as well.
ruh-spect that shit.

i walked home, and she picked me up, and we went to the park in ra'anana to lie on the grass.

after much laying about, we moved to herzliya pituach, and traipsed (i love that word) along the beaches, stopping by the shops to use the restrooms and have an amazing toasted sandwich (with cheese, mustard, lettuce, and cucumber), before trekking back.

i got home a little woozy - slight heat-stroke, and all i could do was pass out on the couch, watching a british boxing movie called twentyfourseven.
very cool, at least what i saw before my eyelids got too heavy.

i woke up, had an INCREDIBLE shower (life is good to me sometimes), and arbed around until she picked me up, and took me to her place, where we watched monty python: and now for something completely different, and the meaning of life.

having never seen the meaning of life, i must say that i found it less funny than artsy, and either way i quite enjoyed it.
's very nice.

*** today ***

i walked home, doing some midnight shopping on the way, and having eaten some pita with techina, some tortilla chips with matbucha (weird semi-hot vege concoction), and played around online, i'm now going to sleep.

we're actually going to start studying in the morning.

*** yesterday ***

after posting some totally silly pics of myself, i got myself plenty of sleep - i woke up around 11 or so.

i went to training, which was pretty good - sweaty, but good, and i went to karnaf's place afterwards, where we chilled until quite late (and i had a much-needed, and very good shower, and supper, and the music was good too).

i had a rather strange experience on the bus home - some woman came to sit next to me, while i was talking on the phone, and i heard her make some comment to herself that included the word "cute".
i decided to ignore her, and took out my book (the second jungle book), and began reading. after a couple of minutes, she started up a rather pointless discussion about reading classics, and i really didn't have a clue what to say - the rest of the bus ride was quite awkward...

i pretty much went to bed as soon as i got home.

*** today ***

today was simply awesome.

i woke up at 06.30, got dressed and went to training.
it - was - #@$%ing - FREEZING.

only two of us showed up, and i was the higher ranking, so i took it - obviously i think it was a good training.

the weather had improved while we were inside, and i sat outside on the pavement while eating my folded-pizza-pastry-thingy (sambusak), before bussing back home.

i had an INCREDIBLE shower, and passed out until lunch-time. i "did stuff", including working on my community service project, until 15.15, when my study partner came over.

we worked until roughly 18.30, and we pretty much finished our assignment for friday - one element remained incomplete.

and so, i went traipsing around irc servers seeking gurus for assistance.
firstly - it offends me that there are all these pseudo-intellectual dipshits online, who sit around in help channels waiting to feed their egos on people who are desperate enough to come asking. pre-question, i was irritated by the attitude of "just ask your question, don't waste our time by trying to find out if anyone's listening". post-question: i received an onslaught of "are you stupid?", and "i've just found it using google, why couldn't you?".

and, once i found the answer myself, i discovered that all the flamers had misunderstood a particularly simple and unambiguous post, and had flamed me for a totally dumb question i hadn't asked.

the only real satisfaction i got out of it all, was putting them to shame by answering my own question, and politely requesting that they not jump to arms against other people without due cause.

oh - and i got the satisfaction of having completely finished my homework - quite the relief.

i've now had enough time to catch up with my email, and my basic plan for the next hour or so is to do some more work for my community service (i have to transfer and edit content between two websites), install software that theoretically should allow me to read my work email, and do some very serious sleeping.

*** 25th ***

my day began with three hours of math. hooray.

after class SxS took me to da's, where we worked on our presentation, and played minesweeper flags. we left just before midnight.

*** yesterday ***

i got to bed around 1am, after making sure that i had a copy of our material on my computer, woke up at 06.30, and went over all the stuff i'd have to say.

fortunately, the 08.45 presentation went well - i was so relieved afterwards, i didn't know what to do with myself!

santa claus caught me reading the newspaper in his class. i feel as if i haven't made the best impression on him.
oh well.

i spent the day on campus, doing all sorts of odd things, including my accounting homework, and then went to our last accounting class - which wasn't half bad.
make of that sentence what you will.

i went to taekwondo after class - i had a pretty good session, and i got the forms right for the first (and hopefully not last) time - i'm pretty chuffed with myself, not to mention surprised.

i got home just before midnight, watched an intrigueing episode of jag,

*** today ***

showered, and am currently deciding between doing some work, and going to bed.
and posting stupid pics of myself...

24/01/04

*** 22nd ***

work was, well, work.

we got home roughly 5 - 6ish, and i slept until 10am. i had breakfast, showered, finished up my paper on investing in china (whoopee!), and did my algorithms homework, before going to class.

walking to class.
in the rain.

the first class was cool - we watched a movie about globalization, privatization, and how capitalism is taking over the entire world.

SxS, mmf, da and i spent about an hour and a half preparing our presentations (ten minutes talking about economics we don't understand), and a few minutes in the cafeteria, fighting for a spot and some food amongst the entire campus, all squished in to one small, confined, smoky, leaky building.

da and i went second in the presentations.
we SUCKED. big time. everybody laughed at us.
but it's okay.
we were laughing at us too.

the rest of the presentations were boring, but we sat through until the end.

when i got home, i packed as quickly as i could, and went off to the train station - finally getting it all right, and ending up in time for the right train.

she picked me up, we drove to gedera, and watched ocean's eleven.
AWESOME.
AWESOME.
AWESOME.

*** yesterday ****

we got up around 10am, had a chilled breakfast (which i'd been looking forward to all week), and went shopping, which took us past the coolest store - everything per kilo, and everything from beans to seeds, to sweets, to dried fruit.
they had, and i'm not kidding (i even ate one), dried KIWI.
and it was good.

we also went past a lovely little bakery, but me writing this serves no purpose other than to make myself hungry.
mmmm....

she dropped me off at the train station, where i * just * made it in time for the last train of the day, and from the tel aviv station i took a bus to dizengoff, where i was going for taekwondo.

i had a hot dog (very nice) for lunch, and then had a fun training session - i got stretched properly though (which included about five minutes of me trying desperately not to cry too much in front of the kids).

i got a ride home. i showered. i played tekken. i played counterstrike. i played starcraft. i had too much rice for supper. i played more counterstrike. i went to bed.

*** today ***

i got up late, did some laundry, cleaned my room (and threw out TONS of old stuff), and other than playing more counterstrike, didn't do anything at all...

21/01/04

*** today ***

i got up around 9am, i did some reading for our presentation, i went to the bank, i did some shopping.

our argentinian flatmate and i went to speak to the nice ladies about our community service. i have to do 120 hours of helping kids with english homework, and taking care of one problem child.
i'm gonna be SUCH a good influence.

i went to ra'anana, and did some documentation for icq source code, which was quite interesting, and i got paid decently (NIS100, about R160, for 45 minutes). i got a chappies, too (ex-south africans).

i then had to wait half an hour for a bus that took roughly an hour and a half to get to the desired bus-stop.
for no good reason.
mmf took a while to pick me up - i was really, really hungry, and i was standing next to a bus-stop with a poster of a new chocolate that's just come out, and it looks soooo good.

when we got to a cafe, guess what i bought - and it was just as good as it looked.

when we got to da's, i stuffed myself with bread, humus, and almost an entire packet of vienna sausages...

we spent the afternoon doing bits of work, argueing, and playing games, before da gave me a ride to work.

we started off work with a half hour of QA testing, which was cool (i * broke * the program a number of times), we've just had supper (awesome beef in peanut butter sauce), and we're about to begin work itself.

i'm just concerned that tomorrow's not going to go well - and my nose isn't helping my confidence levels.

signing * snuffle * out.

20/01/04

*** 17th ***

i pretty much spent my day playing counterstrike, and starcraft, and tekken. i started doing my math homework, too, but it didn't really happen.

*** 18th ***

early #$@%ing sunday morning. in accounting class. taking a quiz.
which wasn't very easy.

we then had math, three hours of it.
after class, i sat in the library, and did my algorithms homework (which was basically copying the previous year's solutions), and then SxS picked me up, and we went to ramat aviv.
where we didn't do any work.
we watched some vacation videos from brazil, which was awesome: they reminded me of the life i left behind in cape town - those were easy, easy days.

we went to mcdonald's for supper, where we ate like pigs, and mmf and SxS and i had a rather entertaining argument about israel and israelis, and for the first time since i've been here, i had an israeli on my side of the argument: this is really not such a bad place to live.

i passed out,

*** yesterday ***

and woke up about 01.30, with human nature on the telly - man, that looks like a seriously demented film, and i'm glad i didn't watch it.
SxS gave me a ride home.

i woke up at 07.30, and discovered - while trying to make myself hot chocolate - that grootbek had scaled my sugar.
that really pissed me off. while writing a threatening letter to him, i knocked over a mug and a plate, and it took me about ten minutes to clean it up properly, and so i was late for class.
what a great start to the morning.

the first class was interesting. immediately afterwards, i received a call from grootbek, terrified, trying to convince me that it wasn't him.
a short while later, mmf and i were on our way to meet with one of our professors, and were discussing the fact that we were about to miss the really boring class.
we've taken to calling the lecturer of that class "santa claus", due to his appearance.
"missing santa claus' class doesn't perturb me, " i said, rather loudly.
as santa claus himself walked past...

our meeting with the professor lasted about an hour and a half, and our applied project has completely changed once again.
initiation document, here we come: round three.

we got to class just as the quiz began. fortunately, he allowed us to take it, but i've never seen anything but a blank look in his eyes, and today he looked at us with pure malice.

and he's taking us for two courses next semester.
way to go, me.

after class, i ran around trying to sort out my studies, and i'm not sure how much i achieved.

i finished my c project, went to accounting (lots of pink pens - i don't get it either), didn't understand much, and went home.

i went to taekwondo, which was a totally aggravating experience, and, as i'm unfit, totally destroying too. it really sucked, and i was totally buggered.

SxS picked me up, and we went back to my place. where i had an argument with our brit, who's supposed to have organized toilet paper a week and a half ago, and still hasn't. he basically told me to go and get it myself, so screw him, i bought my own and i ain't sharing.
i hate the inanity, but i have to stand up for myself.

we played tekken for a while,

*** today ***

i had an awesome shower, and i'm now off to bed.

*** later ***

uugh.
* whimper *
* snuffle *

i had a horrid day today, mostly. everything was painful, due to a lack of oxygen in my system, and a runny, blocked nose. yes, please note the oxymoron.

work was okay - two hours of nothing, as our US counterparts hadn't done their job, and one hour for lunch (hot thai soup, with plenty of bits), and i left.

i took a bus to ramat aviv, where i was picked up by da (who's apartment we've been studying at). when we got to his place, i passed out on the couch.

i suppose that was good.

i woke up, and tried to work on our presentation for thursday. i did learn one or two things, but i didn't get very far in understanding the concept as a whole.
bummer.
i remembered today that the guy i was supposed to write the drivers for (*1) had a decent job in the army, and he's agreed to put forward my cv to a contact of his -
w00t!

(*1) he couldn't do them either. it's merely a case of pathetic documentation, and bad sample files. thank you microsoft.

he gave me a ride to the bus-stop, i bussed home, had a quick just-add-water "supper", a great shower, and i'm getting ready for bed.

i'm struggling to choose between sleep, homework, and starcraft, and i know i can't choose them all...

17/01/04

*** yesterday ***

i didn't go to my early morning math lecture. i slept. i slept goood.

i finally made it to a friday training in dizengoff. i got there about half an hour late, so i had to warm up and stretch quickly, and by the time i joined the group, i was out of breath. unfortunately, the airflow systems in the bomb shelter weren't working.
i started developing heatstroke after a while.
other than that, training was great! after getting home, i went for a quick 45 minute blade around herzliya, had a quick shower, and got picked up by SxS, whose place we had supper at.
#$@%-off huge supper.
and good.

spent the next hour or so playing table tennis, and riding around on this motorized scooter, which, quite frankly, is the SHIT. it's really quick, and loads of fun.

we then came to my place, where we had a most entertaining tekken tournament - one of the highlights, for me at least, was having grootbek torn apart, dissected, and burned for more than half an hour straight - some of the guys who came over were just saying all the things i've been wanting to say, and it was kind of like venting by proxy.

and he took it pretty well. i hope that means he was listening...

*** today ***

once everyone had left, i spent about two hours or so playing counterstrike, and totally not sucking.

15/01/04

*** yesterday ***

work was fine, i got a ride home, and got to sleep around 5 / 6am.

i didn't go to training, and fortunately i was in time to get a ride with our argentinian flatmate to campus (it was POURING with rain), where i gave a short speech to some potential students who are here on a two week program from south africa.

a small cheer went out when i mentioned which school i went to, and there were some other cute responses - i even got applauded when i walked off the stage! that was so weird.

and i used to be in the class of one of the teacher's leading the group... and she recognized me...

i went home, slept about half an hour, and my study partner arrived. this was about 15.00. we worked on our c homework until roughly 23.00.
and we almost finished it, too.
i'm still impressed.

i switched off my brain in front of the telly for an hour or so,

*** today ***

and then went to bed.

i woke up about 08.30, sorted out my bank account (i had to go there to sign a piece of paper, that acknowledges that the money in my bank account is mine), and then went to university, where i scanned in my diplomas and a work reference, which i later sent on to the dean of computer science, who's hopefully going to send it through to some (i assume extremely) influential friends of his in the army: i might be spending my two and a half years' service doing something useful!!

the other good news i've received today is that our class got an extension for our algorithms assignment, so all i did today was sit in class, which wasn't so bad.

instead of training tonight, which i badly wanted to do, i met up with her in tel aviv, and we went to watch maccabi tel aviv beat the pants off some foreign basketball team.
VERY satisfying.

i just got back, i'm going to have a shower, and then it's definitely bedtime for me.
what a nice day!

14/01/04

*** 12th ***

i spent my day on campus, in boring classes, or doing homework.

i got home at 19.30, had supper, a shower, and then went with her to gedera, where we watched ten things i hate about you. she's living in a far more stylish apartment than ours, which is kinda funny considering that they're living in a total crap-hole, and i found the couches so comfortable, it was a real mission to go to bed.

*** yesterday ***

we got up at 07.15, and after a quick cup of tea, i got on the israeli equivalent of a black taxi to the train station, where i made it just in time. from the next train station i took a bus to the student authority in tel aviv, where there were tons of russians and ethiopians, and a couple of argentinians, waiting their turn.

they've been on strike for three months, and they're not working that much harder now...

i waited about three hours, with some reading, and skipping out at one point for a falafel breakfast.

eventually, an ex-brazilian woman took pity on me, and my lack of hebrew proficiency, and helped me out. i spent the afternoon grinning, after she said to me: "if you weren't so cute, i wouldn't help you out like this".
sweet.

i went to work, and it took me two and a half hours to clear my email, and to fail completely in finding a replacement for work (which is why i'm here now).

i bussed home, did a load of washing, slept, and bussed back to work,

*** today ***

*** 9th ***

we went to sleep around 08.30, woke up at 12.00, and went back to her place to eat lunch, and babysit her little brother.

we went to my relatives for supper, which was really nice, and i slept at her place.

*** 10th ***

i got up really, really late - around 12.00 or so, and went home to shower and change. she picked me up, and we went to her grandparents for lunch, which was great - lots of good food, and their apartment is like a museum - really amazing pictures and things all over the place.

after lunch i came home, and did some homework, and then SxS fetched me, and we went through to ramat aviv to work on our project.

*** yesterday ***

we more or less finished our project at about 05.00, and i got to bed around 05.30.

i didn't wake up at 06.30 for training.
i didn't wake up in time to complete my maths homework.

i bladed to class. maths was okay, the new building is absolutely stunning - it's HUGE, and the lecture theatres are great.

had some lunch, met up with some people i needed to speak to, and then walked / bladed home, and started on the programming (c) homework.

it's very strange coding something you don't understand. the code is easy, the concept (digital architecture - it's a virtual CPU) is really unclear.

she dragged me along to pick up some pictures she'd had developed, and i convinced her to go with me to the "luminarium", or whatever it's called in english.

we sat down for some mediocre, expensive hot chocolate, and then entered what i can only describe as serious surrealism. this british artist has created an enormous "maze" inside a really odd shaped balloon, and it's really trippy.
and having to trade in my shoes for white slippers freaked me the #@$! out.

she dropped me off at home, and i spent the rest of the day doing homework.

which i've been doing until now - it's definitely bedtime...

work was cool - i spent most of it simply wasting time.

or not - a lot of that wasted time went into checking out the lastest in gadgetry: www.oqo.com is a good start, xybernaut is another...

sammy gave me a ride home, and i walked in the door around 06.00. and into the shower around 06.50. and into bed soon, but i'm waiting for her to arrive so that i don't have to wake up unnecessarily.

but i ain't going to no maths. uh uh.

*** yesterday ***

i got to work, had a wicked ravioli alfredo meal, and

*** today ***

worked until 01.30. a friend picked me up from the bus station, and i went home with him, where SxS was trying to do a paper due this afternoon. i had to help both of them, with two completely different homeworks, and i just wanted to sleep.

SxS gave me a ride home, at 06.30, and i went to sleep.

waking up at 11.15 was hard. really hard. but my argentinian flatmate gave me a ride to school, and we made it in time to hand in the paper.

the class was interesting.
almost.

after lunch, i sat in the library to do the algorithms homework - it was the first time this semester that i understood what i was doing, and could assist other people too.
maybe, just maybe, i have a chance of passing this course.

i had to walk in the rain to get to class, and some prick made a snide remark about me walking in late - really irritated me, but at least the rest of the class made him feel uncomfortable about it as well.
bastard.

class was confusing as hell. 'nuff said. i got a ride home afterwards, made myself spaghetti, and played some tekken.

as she walked in, i got a phone call from work telling me i was half an hour late! and this was at 19.30, and i was SURE i only had to be in at 21.30...

so much for showering. she was kind enough to give me a ride to work, and the ride here was quite fun. i'm slowly being emasculated... i was singing along to the love actually... soundtrack...

anyway, at least work's not going to be rough tonight. i'm sitting and watching, and getting paid for it.
:D

*** 5th ***

i passed out around 5am, and we got to class around 11am, in one of the most unnecessarily fast car rides i've ever been on. we handed in our assignment, and had some coffee, before the others went home to bed, and i went to that really boring class.

we had a quiz. i filled the page with crap. i left.

doing the accounting homework in the library was not fun, and i was totally exhausted - i ended up with a half-done half-assed paper, that i'm pretty sure isn't worth the paper it was handed in on.

i had lunch, a good lunch, but i realized as i began that i'd forgotten to hand in an assignment, and it was late by about five minutes.
i finished my lunch.
i submitted the file.
i sent a sobbing email to the lecturer, who responded shortly that it would be okay.
i learned about oracle workflow over the net.
i learned that it cannot do anything that i need it to do.
oracle workflow's looking pretty sucky right now.
our lecturer in applied project is looking pretty sucky right now, for telling us to do our project in workflow only.
oh well.

i went to accounting class, which was kind of sort of okay-ish, and then slowly made my way home.

i didn't have supper, but i did shower before bed.
bed.
mmmm.

*** yesterday ***

i woke up, had a great breakfast, then went back to sleep. after i woke up the second time, i had a great lunch, and then went to taekwondo in tel aviv.

i walked in, 15 minutes late, to a testing. i couldn't breathe (it's a bombshelter with bad ventilation, go figure), and my body was sore, but i tried anyway, and ended up with a stripe on my belt, which i suppose does make it all worth it...
i'm so fickle.

i was supposed to work with someone on our accounting homework, but she wasn't answering her phone, and as i was in the area, i decided to pay a visit to karnaf - stopping on the way at a hot dog stand called willy dog's, which is a name i simply don't get.

anyway, it was good seeing him again, and we chilled until i had to meet up with one of my study partners.

as i got outside, the rain began pouring, and i had to walk for a couple of blocks... i was SOAKED by the time the dude picked me up.
which was when the rain stopped.

got to his place, got fed, we worked on our assignments

*** today ***

until 2am, and he gave me a lift home. after showering, i got to bed at 03.30, planning on waking up at 06.30 to go to training.

yeah, right.

i woke up at 12.00, spoke to her for about 25 minutes, made myself breakfast, and am currently taking a short break from doing homework.

i'm hoping to finish all this shite with time to play some starcraft before going to work tonight.

i'm feeling pretty good. sleepy, but good.

until some rediculous time in the morning. a friend of ours came to pick them up, and returned my first invader zim cd, which i'm rather happy about.
i went to bed.

i woke up around 11am, and spent my day doing homework, and watching chasing amy, which is a very cool film.

oh, and playing a little bit of starcraft.

SxS came over, and we worked on our project

*** yesterday ***

until about 2am. i went to bed, and woke up at 06.30, leaving my apartment on rollerblades at 07.00, and arriving at our gym in ra'anana at 07.25.
i amaze myself, sometimes.

two of us made it for taekwondo, and the training was really good. for some reason, training in the morning is WAY easier than in the evening.

we walked out of the gym, into a simply perfect day. it was absolutely gorgeous, and after the training i was already feeling good.

happy happy, joy, joy :)

by some stroke of mis/fortune, i ended up taking a bus with psychotic american. we had a really interesting conversation, which i'm sure he forgot five minutes after he got off the bus.

i naively retain the hope that i've made the world a safer place.

for the remainder of the bus ride i spoke to an elderly south african woman, inanely. i'm not sure whether i like those talks, but it was pleasant nonetheless.

i had a long, hot shower when i got home, and a big-ass grapefruit breakfast - i've almost managed to work out how to get the pieces out without blinding myself.

i rolled to campus on my blades, and immediately got to work on my math assignment.
nasty, mean, mathses.
SxS and our project partner joined me, and we all worked together for a while. i then went to class, which was quite fun, although the material sucked piles, and then rejoined the guys for lunch, and a general move to ramat aviv, where we continued working.

it's been really difficult to focus.

*** today ***

we're taking a half an hour's break, and then it's back to the trenches. i'm mentally exhausted. but otherwise feeling good.

*** 31st ***

i spent my day doing c homework. it sucked.

she appeared in my room suddenly, at around 8pm, i'm guessing, and we spent new year's together at home, watching apocalypse now redux, and we ordered chinese. they slightly screwed up our order, forgetting to bring chopsticks, but it was pretty good.

i can't believe that i have a girlfriend who could enjoy a new year's like that. i've found my ideal woman!!

*** yesterday ***

she had to leave at 08.00, and i slept a little more before going to class at 12.00.

we finished class at 18.30, and i got home with half an hour to eat before SxS picked me up, and we went to tel aviv to work on our project.
we stopped by at a megastore to do some food shopping - i'd only had a couple of slices of toast, so i was pretty hungry.
i ended up eating four pieces of chicken schnitzel, and approximately five servings of spanish rice - and i felt GOOOD.
satisfied.

*** today ***

we worked on our project till 04.00, and i got home at roughly 04.30. i continued working on the c assignment - which did NOT go well...

at 08.00, i gave up, and walked to math class. i had to buy the lecturer a cup of coffee - the word "fishes" DOES exist, it's just unuseable. i hate english.

the class sucked, and i had trouble keeping my eyes open, but she came to the rescue! she came to visit me on campus, and we sat and talked for about an hour before she left for the weekend.

i printed out my assignment, handed it in, and walked slowly home.

i think i got home around 12.00, or 12.30. the walk home was simply amazing - having done what i could for the assignment, i was feeling all relaxed, and today was simply stunning. warm, and sunny, and oh, so pretty.

of course, that could just be hallucination.

i had a shower, and went to bed.

i woke up a couple of hours ago, and got myself organized foodwise (spaghetti, and grapefruit), and i'm currently waiting for the guys to get here so that we can carry on with our project... i think i'll play some starcraft in the meanwhile.
