06/10/03

i've just gotten back from the traditional "breaking of the fast" at some relatives, and i am completely stuffed. i ate until bursting, and then ate some more. my mother always told me that whatever you do in life, you should do it properly. i think that covers being a pig.

*** 4th ***

my mom and i watched keeping the faith. a fun movie.
at some point, my back started feeling a little better. i went to sleep, and

*** yesterday ***

i woke up feeling worse than before.
pretty much all i did sunday was whine and moan. i couldn't really focus on anything other than how much pain i was in.

for all you non-jews, from yesterday until this evening was, to quote keeping the faith, the superbowl of the jewish calendar. it's a 26 hour fast (no water, no nothing), and lots of praying. i didn't have a problem with not eating, but the no drinking thing got to me rather quickly. i spent my day a little disorientated from the dehydration.

*** today ***

i didn't go to synagogue this morning, but i did make it for both nights. i even had a few moments of spiritual wellness - maybe i needed to go more than i thought.
i spent the day reading, and feeling sorry for myself. at some point my sister's kids were driving her nuts, so i dragged them out for a stroll along the beachfront. i think it was probably the first fresh air they've had in months, and they reacted rather well. also, my nephew gave me a puma vest, which fits quite nicely, and i think she should be happy with it.

tomorrow's going to be a hectic day - the phone i've borrowed is totally $#@%ed, so i need to get it repaired, and i need to give my niece a ride to the airport. the big issue at the moment is that she's going to be staying at my place in israel. she has absolutely no respect for other people's property, and i'm not so sure i'm comfortable with her being there, but she really has noplace else to go.

ugh. although, i suppose, better the enemy you know (and are related to) than the enemy you don't...

i'd better get some sleep. i'm ZORsted.
