breathing in

i was rolling between a long line of cars that were stuck behind a garbage truck. as i went past a taxi he hooted, and as usual i stopped and indicated that it wasn't a nice thing to do.

"you're sick in the head!" he screamed, along with a bunch of other unpleasant things... while he was busy shouting abuse, i was slowly shouting back "IT - IS - FORBIDDEN - TO - HOOT - IN - URBAN - AREAS".

yes. yes i am sick in the head. i'm sick because i don't like being attacked, and i'm especially sick because i actually try to do something about it!

my boss gave me a pep talk yesterday morning about relaxing - he used to freelance, so he gave me some pretty good perspective and tips. i found this to be quite touching.

two minutes later, i came up with an excellent mantra - easily repeatable and totally amusing in its irony... only i was distracted before i could write it down and i haven't remembered it yet :S

in the evening my mum called to shout at me - and it was greatly appreciated. third / fourth / whatever time's a charm? i've now done the math, and i'm going to be just fine. i really can chillax, and maybe deal with all my real problems. and breathe a little.

yesterday was quite a lot of fun. the guy who's training me and i spent ages figuring out a problem with the batch files i'd written (running other batch files requires prefixing with call - who knew?) and then running mysql (the syntax is... not as expressed in the usage). then an hour or two was spent trying to get my environment settings correct, followed by him throwing me in the deep end.

i sat until just after 8pm finishing the change, and thoroughly enjoying messing with java. the system he's constructed is complex, but incredibly well designed :)

i've been judging indie rock on ourstage in the background, and it's a great way to get to know good tunes :)

i left work in time to see the tail end of a great sunset, and rolled in to settle a debate convincingly: beef and blueberry on rice cakes works better than beef and marmite. *such* a student, and the fall semester isn't open yet :D

chc left me a post on facebook to arrange a cup of coffee - i find this weird. after that i noticed that her shower stuff is gone, so maybe she found somewhere semi-permanent? i hope so. regardless i need to tell her that she only has a couple of weeks left to get her gear out.

the route last night was hard. loads of uphills, and there were a lot of initiates in the group... three near-nasty incidents during the run; it was a bit hairy... but loads of fun! ^_^

fairly social, too. the regular group met for frozen yoghurt afterwards; i hadn't brought enough cash, and the pretty girl that i'm decidedly fond of was so kind as to share with me :)

after sitting a while laughing and being silly, we called it a night. i spent about an hour reading comics (order of the stick), being amused that my beard trimmer cut out just before i could remove the goatee *zooms off to clear that as well* and putting myself to bed with beowulf (lines 1728 - 1757 of seamus heaney's version really impressed me).

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand i'm off to work.

grace slick always makes me smile!

babylon bombs - liberation provided a good wake-up this morning :)
