this post really began sometime yesterday afternoon, when i repeated the sentiment that i referenced a while back that politicians must be young, idealistic and without familial baggage to deal with. we'd gotten to that via my explaining terrence mckenna's statement:
"that orgies every new and full moon, everybody screwing in a heap, makes it impossible to form these notions of my women, my children, my weapons, my food, and so forth." (slightly out of context, but still accurate).
i feel that the biggest problem we have in this country is that the prevailing attitude derives from the military experience: there's nothing you can do to change the system. there's no way to get around the system. you're screwed
this brings us two problems:
1. our politicians, much like our high-ranking officers, only become more useless with time and
2. nobody believes that their participation has any meaning.
once we lose faith in democracy, we may as well turn it in for something else. nobody here votes for their representative parties, nobody protests injustices, nobody really riots and anyone who has half a brain would rather take care of himself and his own problems before worrying about his neighbours.
this isn't a society. it's not a democracy. it's a long series of lazy, selfish lies and it must stop before we can actually get anywhere.
food for thought? i love this man.
