like breathing treacle

the weekend has flown by, a saturday that began with a tough, smelly washing of someone else's disgustingly dirty dishes and the carrying over of a seriously heavy set of technical books. then i burned the lunch omelettes because i can never figure out which stove setting is right for eggs, after which i rested for an hour so that i could get some work done.

have done that work, or some of it, i joined pg on the roof with a nargila. we smoked until my head spun, then came downstairs and i edited our class poetry offering for the end of year. dinner was had in front of the telly (riddick), and i've just finished reading the first part of the assigned readings for monday (it took forever to get around to it).

i have tons of things that need doing and none of the energy required for doing them. i'm going to bed instead.

  1. The reason you can't find a stove setting for eggs is that you're not meant to cook them on one heat all the way through. This is true for scrambled eggs and french omelettes.

    Start the pan on a high heat to get it hot. As soon as you drop the eggs in, drop it to a medium heat. Then, when the eggs are about 75% done, turn it off entirely and finish them in the heat of the pan (take the pan right off the element if it's electric). Alternately if you are doing a spanish style omelette, you're better off also heating the grill element in the oven at the same time, and just sticking the pan in under the grill to finish off the top.
